Paul Dennis Downing, Sr., 75, of Savannah, Georgia, died Tuesday afternoon, May 24, 2022, at Memorial University Medical Center.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Dennis Thomas Downing and the late Norma Deal Downing. Paul was of the Catholic faith. He was a United States Army veteran. Paul graduated from Benedictine Military School and attended Armstrong Junior College. He was a retired Parts and Sales Director in automobile sales. Paul was a member of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, Knights of Columbus Council #631, and several other Irish organizations.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his live-in girlfriend of 22 years, Janie R. Edenfield, and his sister, Lynne Downing.
Survivors include his son, Paul Dennis Downing, Jr. and his partner, Craig Dinerman; one sister, Sharon Lysaught and her husband, Orville, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 o’clock, Friday evening, May 27, 2022, at Gamble Funeral Service – 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, May 28, 2022, at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by the Reverend Joseph A. Smith.

To Paul and his family Even though we haven’t seen each other for over 55 years I still remember you quite well at Sacred Heart. You are quite a character especially in six grade with sister Agnes Joseph. Your dad was a great person as well. To the family my deepest condolences and even though I won’t be able to make it to the funeral you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
