Michael “Mike” Karl Cress, 49, of Rincon, Georgia and husband of Aimee Swing Cress, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, July 13, 2020, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Born in Alton, Illinois, on January 24, 1971, he was a son of Rex Karl Cress and Sharon Kay Patton Cress. Mike attended schools in Alton and moved to St. Simons Island for his freshman year at Glynn Academy in Brunswick. He graduated from Glynn Academy in the summer of 1989 and was in the National Honor Society all of his High School years. Mike attended Georgia Southern University for 2 years and earned his BS degree from Armstrong State in Savannah in 1994.

Mike was a devout Christian and an active member and a volunteer at Compassion Christian Church in Rincon. He owned and operated Turf Tamers. Mike loved all sports: especially Atlanta Braves baseball and the Pittsburg Steelers. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and hunting. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, son, brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle, and a friend to many wonderful people.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Opal Patton and Bill and Lucille Cress, and an uncle, Bill Cress.

Survivors include his wife, Aimee Swing Cress of Rincon; his mother and father, Rex Karl Cress and Sharon Kay Patton Cress of Pooler; his mother-in-law, Mary Howard of Rincon; his sister, Amy Hartley (Bryan) of Pooler; his brother, Todd Cress (Amy) of Godfrey, Illinois; nephews, Clint Cress of Godfrey and Caden and Conner Hartley, both of Pooler; niece, Carly Cress of Godfrey; his aunts, Aleta Cress, Martha Stuker, Doris Cress and Sue Patton; uncles, Larry Stuker and Harold Patton, and cousins.

With concern for the safety and health of our family and friends, a private memorial service will be held in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service – 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the GoFundMe account which has been set up in Mike’s name.

  3. Avi Patel & Family says:

My family’s relationship with Mr. Mike spanned over 20 years. Throughout those 20 years, what started as a professional relationship, slowly blossomed into a long lasting friendship. That friendship came in large part due to Mr. Mike’s warm and courteous personality that instantly made you feel comfortable with him. What ever it was you needed, you knew Mr. Mike would always be the one for the job and he would always greet it with that bright smile he always carried. There were few men who worked as hard as Mr. Mike, and even fewer who were as reliable. Whether it be a cold January morning or a brutally hot August afternoon, you could expect to hear the hum Mr. Mike’s lawnmower. Mr. Mike was committed to the job and he was committed to his clients–he made us feel like family and he certainly was family to us. And that’s how we will keep Mr. Mike in our memories; as the man who always asked how we were doing, and always with that bright smile.

My dear brother, Oh how your selflessness and putting others first will be missed.
Also the times we had together telling stories-The way you would be able to impersonate and make others relate as if they were there.
The golf trips especially to Scotland and Ireland, man did we have fun watching Howard interact with his caddie and just being able to play all of those British Open courses was a true pleasure to experience them with you and dad.
I was fun to see you help teach Clint how to fish.
Being able to come and watch Clint play baseball and enjoy eating ice cream with Carly.

You will be truly missed brother! May you Rest In Peace until we join you! Love you
