MICHAEL “MIKE” EARL WEATHERLY

In the early morning hours of June 14, 2022 Michael Earl Weatherly passed away holding the hand of his daughter while surrounded by many of his furry friends. He bravely fought cancer for many years. He was born in Savannah, Ga to Isaac Walter Weatherly and Nellie Mae Grant on September 19th 1951. At age 3 he won first place in the Savannah Baby Show. Daddy grew up on Tybee Island and played baseball for the Tybee Crabs. He worked at the icehouse as did all of his brothers. Daddy won third place in a yo-yo competition in fifth grade. He played the trombone in elementary and middle school. He attended Savannah High School and was a football player in the 10th grade. He was a member of the Savannah High School Blue Jacket marching band and played the sousaphone. He was also a football player his sophomore year. In 1970 he attended his senior year at Johnson High School and earned his high school diploma. He lived in Las Vegas, NV and Clearwater, FL. He came back to his hometown of Savannah to retire.

He had a love for astronomy and was often found researching through books about the solar system. He loved to look at minerals under the microscope. He was well educated in marine life as well. People often admired his 300 gallon saltwater tank and he was so very proud to show it. Daddy loved chocolate ice cream so much he had a spoon with his name engraved on it. He also liked a nice glass of bourbon. Daddy was a jokester. He would tell a joke so straight faced you didn’t know if he was kidding or not. I still think there’s a toe in the trunk of my car but he swears the tow truck came and got it. He always had a compassionate heart for cats. He loved them dearly. Daddy could often be found in a recliner loving on a sick kitten. It broke his heart to know a kitten needed help. He would stop whatever he was doing to help a baby in distress. Daddy was a simple and compassionate man. He loved to listen to Yanni, Roger Whittaker, and Willie Nelson. He enjoyed watching Wheel Of Fortune, Jeopardy, America’s Got Talent and The Masked Singer.

He was predeceased by his father, Isaac Walter Weatherly; mother, Nellie Grant Bell; brothers, Marshall Grant Weatherly (Las Vegas, NV) and Samuel Francis Weatherly and a sister, Sylvia Weatherly Barfield (Arizona).

He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Weatherly Bonino and her husband, Kevin, and grandchildren, Austin Blake Lanier and Aaron Bryce Lanier; sons, Michael Earl Weatherly Jr., Derrick Todd Weatherly, and grandson, Caleb Ashton Smith; brothers, Issac Walter Weatherly, Jr. (Palestine, TX), Daniel Marion Weatherly, and sister, Sandra Weatherly Lain.

*****GOOD JUDGMENT COMES FROM EXPERIENCE. EXPERIENCE COMES FROM BAD JUDGEMENT *****

In lieu of flowers daddy requests donations of cat food. He always said there is too much food in this world for anything to go hungry. Donations may be brought to Gamble Funeral Service – 410 Stephenson Avenue during the visitation.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 o’clock Monday evening, June 20, 2022, at Gamble Funeral Service – 410 Stephenson Avenue.

A private funeral service will be held in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

  11. Danny ‘Dan’ Weatherly says:

The Weatherly family has endured so much pain as of late. In the last year alone, we have lost three of the seven siblings. Four overall. This one hurts too. I feel Michael had a little of the very best from each of us… and absolutely none of the bad. And with his own unique self, he did with this blend perhaps that which made him so special to all that knew him. I sincerely think that we would all agree that Michael Weatherly just made you have a better day. That is just another reason we were so proud to call him our brother.

In the end, I think that each of us are held to a certain standard of life’s measure. This is done perhaps by our friends, our family, even our loved ones… but surely by God. I think that my brother lived up to that measure. And beyond.

If we may, Our family wishes to openly thank Tiffany and Kevin so very, very much. Kevin, you are quite the man, and son- in- law to have welcomed our brother into your home as you did. He loved you for being that man. He told me so. And we are forever grateful to you. And Tiffany. I get it. You’re his daughter. His only little girl. And no one understands what sort of bond that can be more than myself. But WOW! You sure stepped up. Michael’s last days were spent not only where he needed to be… but where he WANTED to be. He adored you so much! And he often told me so. It is certain that in the care, in the attention and most of all, in the love that Michael received from you both… those last days that were surely so very, very wrong for him… may also in another turn, have been so very, very right for him too. Michael smiled a lot knowing his last days on this earth were near. Michael, in fact, passed away quite peacefully. I think he knew he measured up. I think he knew that he made the cut. And by God’s measure.

You go on up ahead brother. I’m the youngest of all. The smallest one. We were closest in age. You always led our way when we were growing up. It won’t be easy but I will do my very best… to measure up to you. I’ll see you when I can catch up.

  12. Shannon Weatherly says:

Wishing the memories of great times and great love replace the sadness of the loss.

Dads are special people and their loss is felt deeply. Wishing my cousins, Tiffany, Michael and Derrick, love and wellness as you move through this time.

    Shannon Weatherly

    To the family…
It has been some time since I had seen Michael as well as many of the other family members I remember. Just did not want to let Michaels passing go unnoticed as we were all friends as kids growing up on Tybee. Prayers for all. We will all meet again…
