The purchase of the family business, Byrd Cookie Company, brought Kay and her family back to Savannah in 1988. Kay was known by Byrd employees for her attention to detail, high standards and creative flair. Her loving and supportive nature led others to never want to disappoint.

In addition to her parents, Kay was predeceased by her son, Shawn. Kay is survived by her husband Benny and their daughters Cynthia Harn and Stephanie Lindley (Jim); grandchildren Phillip Curl, Jonathan Curl, Jack Harn, Jennifer Lindley, and Jamie Lindley (Spencer); and her sisters Vicki Rahn (Larry) and Pam Reifsnyder (Steve).
