Vivian Lanier Geiger, 92, of Savannah died May 31, 2025.Vivian was born in Savannah at the old Telfair Hospital on Jan. 16, 1933 to the late James Howell Lanier and Jewel Cook Lanier.
She graduated from Commercial High School in 1951. In 1953, she married Walter Bernard Geiger. As Walter’s career with Union Camp advanced, she maintained homes in Fairway Oaks in Savannah, Ailey, Ga., Prattville, Ala., Brooklet, Ga. and then back in Savannah’s Ardsley Park where they lived and watched their family grow.
Vivian had a talent for smocking and sewing exquisite children's clothing—heirloom pieces that her grandchildren will lovingly pass down for generations. Summers were spent at Tybee Island, where she nurtured a deep family love for the beach and all things seafood. A true matriarch, she hosted Thanksgiving every year in Savannah, preparing more than 20 dishes for her family—even in 2024, at the remarkable age of 91. She had a special way with babies, a gift for hospitality, and an eye for setting beautiful tables that brought warmth and elegance to countless family gatherings.
Vivian was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter, a brother Robert Elbert (Bobby) Lanier and his wife Ann.
She is survived by her four children: Walter Geiger, Jr., Chris Geiger (Christie), David Geiger (Angie) and Kaye Eaton (Philip); 11 grandchildren: Jamie Geiger (Blair), Katie Beacham (Jeff), Casey Geiger (Linnea), Caroline Wortman (Nate), Nick Geiger (Julia), Kelsey Marino (Dave), May Melton Barkin (Sam), Will Eaton (Courtney), Livia Lanier Geiger, Shelby Geiger and Anna Eaton; 12 great-grandchildren: Colton and Layla Beacham, Walter and Theodore Geiger, Violet and Jack Geiger, Ezra and Rhys Geiger, Josie and Brooks Wortman, Harry Marino, Wylie Eaton; and May Melton and Livia’s mother Laura Geiger.
We will long miss our BB, her oyster dressing, shrimp salad, Oreo mousse and unconditional love. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Lawrence Zottoli, Jr., caregiver Rosa Young and cousin Kathy and Ian Livingstone.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 9 at 11:00 o'clock a.m. graveside in the Greenwich Cemetery. Gamble Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
