Thomas Francis Kennedy, 91, of Bloomindale, Georgia gained his angel wings on Sunday, April 26, 2026. Tom was born October 18, 1934 to the late William and Rosaleen Kennedy. On May 17, 1958, he married Joan Lee Kauth, who preceded him in death on July 2, 1992. July 24, 1993 he married Dixie Laytham, who preceded him in death on May 31, 2019.
Tom was an avid sport fan whose favorite teams were the Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Cubs. He loved telling the story of watching the Cubs lose game 7 of the 1945 World Series from the Bleachers when he was 11 years old. He not only enjoyed watching sports he enjoyed playing them as well. Tom played softball with his kids as they were growing up and then golf as he and they got older.
Tom was known for his kindness, generosity, wisdom and understanding. He was supportive of all his children in whatever they did. He led by example, never giving the answer but giving you the tools to figure it out on your own.
Above everything, Tom loved spending time with his family. Whether it was playing cards or or chess. He taught his kids how to play chess when they were young and was known for his excellent chess skills. When he moved to Georgia he was able to continue with his love for playing chess with his adopted Grandson Corbin.
Tom was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. He was a man of very few words, but when he spoke you wanted to listen. Tom was very quick witted even until the end. His one liners will live on through his family and caregivers who heard them often.
Tom is survived by his 10 children, Mary Sutton and Jeanne Whitney (Mike) of Bloomingdale; Margaret Oehrke (Ron), Patricia Kennedy, Timothy Kennedy (Jamie),Virginia Kennedy, Joseph Kennedy (Lori) and John Kennedy (Esperanza) all of Missouri; William Kennedy, Texas, and Kathleen Carew (David) of Indiana; 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Along with his parents, and spouses, he was proceeded in death by his sister Rosemary Sweeney and Great Granddaughter Harlee Kennedy.
There is so much more that can be said about our Dad. Our lives will not be the same without him.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 30, 2026, 10 o'clock until 11 o'clock in the morning. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 o'clock in Saint Frances Cabrini Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Savannah or Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
