Susan Leslie Lamb Downey, age 58, daughter of Dr. Gail Little Lamb and the late Paul Roberts "Bobby" Lamb, Jr., died peacefully in Savannah on March 21, 2023.
She graduated from Macon's Stratford Academy in the Class of 1982, was an ADPi at Auburn University, ultimately graduating from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 1990.
Always an animal lover, Susan delighted in rehabilitating a number of dogs who had been abused or neglected, offering them a safe place to land. Her compassionate, generous, inclusive nature led her to care deeply about people as well, especially people who were struggling. Susan enjoyed tackling home improvement projects, hiking, and camping, but was at her happiest boating with her dogs in the creeks and rivers around Savannah and Tybee Island. Her nieces and nephews will treasure times spent tubing and skiing with their fun-loving, witty Aunt SuSu.
Heaven may have gained a sweet angel, but in addition to her mother, Susan will be greatly missed by her sister Laura Lamb Patrick (Pat), her brother Paul Roberts Lamb III (Karen), her bonus mom Judith Lamb, five nieces and nephews, Caroline Patrick Jackson (Ben), Sim Patrick, Abigail Lamb Byers (Daniel), Paul Roberts Lamb, IV (Ashley), and Connor Lamb, her bonus siblings India Lee, Burt Lee (Mary Ann) and Chris Lee (Andi) and many long-time and special friends.
A private, family memorial service was held Saturday, March 25th, on a dock overlooking the "back river" at Tybee Island.
Gifts in Susan's memory may be made to the Coastal Pet Rescue, 7430 Thomas Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406; Stratford Academy, 6010 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31220, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
