Silvia Rodriguez Baez, 82, of Savannah, Georgia, and widow of Luis Brial Baez, passed away Monday morning, March 20, 2023, at The Oaks at Habersham.
Born in Havana, Cuba, she was a daughter of the late Ramon Rodriguez and the late Silvia Rodriguez. She was an only child, whose greatest joy was her family. She grew up with her second cousins, Churro and Tata who were more like sisters. Tata would walk over to Churro and Silvia’s house (whom they referred to as Sansi) everyday. There they lived with their Abuela Eustoquia. They’d always say ‘she was Abuela’s favorite grandchild!’
In America, Silvia and Lou went from Miami to marry in New York, and then they raised their children, Ian and Claudine, in New Jersey, with many close friends who became an extended family.
As a homemaker, Silvia’s greatest pride was always her children. Her cup ran over once grandchildren were added. Being Grandma to Johnny, Lexi, Wills and Barrett was her everything. She never missed an opportunity to shower them with love, always having the perfect card for any occasion, and saying yes to all the cookies they could ever dream of eating. In addition to her four grandchildren, her goddaughter and and her husband, Alicia and Oscar Gonzalez and their four girls - Sophia, Carolina, Isabella and Gabriella were especially dear.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Abuela Eustoquia, her loving husband, Tia Margot and several first cousins.
Survivors include her daughter Claudine Jensen, and grandchildren Johnny and Alexa, of Newark, Delaware, and son Ian Baez, wife Sarah Aliffi-Baez, and grandsons Wills and Barrett, of Savannah,Georgia.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 o’clock, Thursday evening, March 23, 2023 at Gamble Funeral Service – 410 Stephenson Avenue.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 o’clock Friday morning, March 24, 2023, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church – 1003 East Victory Drive. Interment will take place at the Catholic Cemetery.
