Sandra Banks Helmly, 70, of Savannah, Georgia and wife of Robert Lamar 'Buddy' Helmly, died peacefully Saturday evening, September 26, 2015.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Roy Spurgeon Banks, Sr. and the late Celeste Lucille Lake Banks. Sandra was a former longtime member of South Gardens Christian Church. She was an active member of the Savannah Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Sandra enjoyed line dancing, traveling, bowling and was an avid crafts maker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Spurgeon Banks, Jr.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Robert Lamar 'Buddy' Helmly of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Janet Helmly of Savannah, Georgia; one son, Craig L. Helmly and his wife, Jennifer, of Rincon, Georgia, and two grandchildren, Maggie Helmly and Jackson Helmly.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Tuesday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 7 o'clock Tuesday evening in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Pastor Steven R. Helmly. A committal service will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Diabetes Association ' Suite C236, 5105 Paulsen Street, Savannah, Georgia 31405 or the American Heart Association - Post Office Box #15515, Savannah, Georgia 31416.
