Edna Ruth Swinson Biggs Woodruff, 90, of Savannah, GA and widow of Alling Woodruff of Old Greenwich, CT, died Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Hospice Savannah after a long illness.
Born in Baxley, GA, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Bugg Swinson and the late Eula Mae Brannen Swinson. Ms. Woodruff was a former member of The First Congregation Church of Old Greenwich, CT. Besides being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister, she will also be remembered as Mrs. Biggs ' dining room manager for 17 years of the Regency Restaurant in the Downtowner Motor Lodge under the direction of Frank and Janie Harris. She was an avid quilter, loved cooking, traveling and needlepoint. Ms. Woodruff touched the lives of many people and was loved by many friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Vickers, Ann Montenaro, and Mary Swinson; three brothers, Brannen, Jim and Bill Swinson, her sister-in-law, Lucy Cason Swinson and her grandson, William Galgoul.
She is survived by four children, (John) Michael Biggs (wife Diane), Paula Taylor, Lee Ann Chugani and Betsy Johnson, all of Savannah; brother John Swinson (wife Annalie) of Brunswick, GA; sister Sarah Agro of Milford, CT; four grandchildren all of Savannah, Liza Taylor Palefsky (husband Lee), Brian Taylor (wife Angie), Stephanie Chugani Bentley (husband Chase); two sisters-in-law, Clarice Swinson of Chapin, SC and Myra Swinson of Amelia Island, FL; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Tuesday at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday at Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hazlehurst conducted by Pastor Scottie Pitts.
