Robert Dennen 'Bob' Wickwire, 78, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Sylvia Garland Wickwire, died Monday morning, June 23, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice Savannah.
He was born to S. Joseph Wickwire and Eleanor Dennen Wickwire, November 17, 1935 in Bronx, New York.?? Following his father's career with AT & T, Bob was educated in New York, New Jersey and Virginia Schools.?? He graduated from the University of Richmond School of Business in 1962, where he became a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, continuing those relationships throughout his life.?? Upon graduation he started his career in Marketing Research and Accounting, assuming positions from New York City, North Carolina, South Carolina and Connecticut.?? He was married to Sylvia Garland and they had two children, S. Joseph Wickwire II, and Anne Catherine Wickwire.?? In 1997, Bob and Sylvia moved from New Fairfield, Connecticut to Savannah, Georgia, where they joined Independent Presbyterian Church, it becoming an anchor in his life.
Always being an avid reader, Bob was most interested in history.?? He also loved sports, and he, himself, enjoyed rowing, racquetball, handball, and tennis.?? Photography became a special interest and hobby in his later years.?? He served and honored his country with his National Guard and Army Reserves tours of duties.
Bob was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, unselfishly sharing his time and interest and involvement in all their lives.?? He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sylvia; his son S. Joseph Wickwire II and his wife, Cindy, of Medway, Massachusetts; his daughter, Anne Catherine Banez and her husband, Doug, of Davidson, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Jacqueline Woods Wickwire, Brendan Christopher Banez, Robert Michael Wickwire and Matthew Cooper Banez; a brother, Donald Huntington Wickwire and his wife, Ann, of Deltaville, Virginia; a brother-in-law, J. E. Garland II and his wife, Martha, of Charlottesville, Virginia; a nephew, J. E. Garland III of Anchorage, Alaska, and numerous cousins and their families.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Wednesday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Independent Presbyterian Church in Savannah conducted by The Reverend Dr. Terry L. Johnson.?? Interment will be at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in Westview Cemetery in Farmville, Virginia conducted by The Reverend Michael P. Kendall.
