MISSION HILLS, KANSAS - Rich Ellison watched his last ship sail on February 17, 2012 on Tybee Island, Georgia. He was in the most perfect house, on the most perfect island, so he could have his friends and family share his final days at his favorite place, the beach. Rich and his wife, Mary, watched the dolphins play, talked for hours with friends, played lots of gin, and watched endless college basketball games. This is how Rich wanted to spend his last days with his bride.
Rich was born on March 15, 1944 to Edward and Dorothy Ellison. He had seven brothers and sisters: Michael, Michele, Carol, Robert, Mary Beth, Christine and Ed. He married his bride, Mary Hanlon, on May 2, 1964, and they had four children: Richard Edward "Rocky" Ellison, Jr., Laura, Colleen, and Amy. They have two grandchildren, Molly Grace and Abigail.
In addition to being a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, Rich owned and operated Stadium Imports/Honda for over 25 years, and is fondly remembered by many of his former employees. Rich had many wonderful friendships which he truly valued. He especially loved his nieces, nephews, and CASA kids. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning, February 24, 2012, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church - 4041 Main Street.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Paul's Food Pantry (4041 Main Street, 64111).
