Raymond Douglas Wood??passed away on Saturday, August 10.



He was born January 14, 1933 in Florence South Carolina.?? His parents were the Reverend Raymond Douglas Wood Sr., pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church in Savannah, and late president of the Georgia-Alabama Synod, and Dorothea Dorn Wood.?? He is survived by his wife Ardis Ann Hacker Wood of Savannah and a sister, Carolyn Wood Ernst of Wilkesboro, North Carolina.



Mr. Wood attended Savannah High School and graduated from Georgia Tech in 1954.?? He served as president of his social fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon and was elected to Omicron Delta Kappa and ANAK honorary societies.?? Mr. Wood served as supply officer, on the USS Gwinn, DM-33, from 1954 to 1956 in Charleston, South Carolina.



He moved to the New York City metropolitan area in 1957, where he briefly worked as a field engineer for the Square 'D' Company.?? In 1964, he joined IBM in New York and was promoted to Branch Manager, Roanoke, Virginia in 1970.?? In 1973, he moved to White Plains, New York to become a member of the IBM legal staff.



Taking early retirement in 1979, he became the manager of economic development for the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and for ten years produced the annual Chamber Economic Outlook.?? In 1990, he became chief economic analyst for Savannah Electric.



Mr. Wood was a member of the Sons of the Revolution, the Rotary Club of Savannah East, and the Rumpsteak Club.?? He had also served on the board of directors of the Arthritis Foundation and the Rape Crisis Center.



A memorial service??will be held at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, October 20, 2013, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah conducted by The Reverend David H. Messner. The family will receive friends at the Church after the service. Private inurnment, with military honors, will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah where he was a member, or to a charity of choice.
