SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Muriel Mendel Piazza, 83, of Savannah, Georgia, widow of Richard "Dick" Columbus Piazza, died Friday morning, April 2, 2010, at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Alexander Mendel and the late Maude Warren Mendel. Mrs. Piazza was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She and her husband owned and operated the family business, Piazza Shoe Service, where she was the bookkeeper. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ben Daniel Piazza, and a sister, Joan K. Mendel.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph C. Piazza and his wife, Masako, of Savannah, Georgia, Richard Mendel Piazza and his wife, Susan, of Fairfax, Virginia, and Tony Piazza of Savannah, Georgia; one sister, Patricia Deaux of Savannah, Georgia; four grandchildren, Lt Col Rich Piazza, USAF, and his wife, Heather, Teresa Piazza and her husband, Chad, Benjamin Piazza and his wife, Kelly, and Sarah Piazza, and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Tuesday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the Rosary service being held at 7 o'clock in the funeral home chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church conducted by The Reverend Benjamin Dallas. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park - East mausoleum.
