SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Maxine "Midge" Lasky Schildkraut, 71, of Savannah Georgia, wife of Herbert "Herbie" Schildkraut, died Sunday morning, January 22, 2012, at Memorial University Medical Center.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Lasky and the late Shirley Katner Lasky. After graduating from college she worked for the Savannah Evening Press as a reporter. She later moved to New York, where she met her husband Herbie, and was the editor for Good Housekeeping Magazine's food section. Midge and Herbie returned to Savannah to be closer to her parents after living many years in New York. She worked as the public relations director at Candler Hospital until her retirement. Her picture could be seen around Savannah on the mobile screening buses that brought health services to many in the Savannah area.  Midge was a member of Congregation Agudath Achim and served as the first female Congregation President. She was very active in the leadership of Shalom School and served as a former editor for the Savannah Jewish News. Midge volunteered for twenty years as President of Morning Star Cultural Arts Group. Midge always cared and had concern for others.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert "Herbie" Schildkraut, of Savannah, Georgia and her daughter, Robyn Schildkraut of Atlanta, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Kenneth R. Leitner.
