Marianne King Scheer

April 10, 1938 — November 30, 2025

Savannah

Marianne King Scheer, 87, of Savannah, Georgia died Sunday afternoon, November 30, 2025, at Memorial Medical University.

Marianne was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born in 1938 in Claxton, Georgia and grew up enjoying all the fun of country living, spending days filled with sunshine, family and friends. Marianne chose nursing as a career and after completing nursing school, landed at Memorial Hospital. She worked at Memorial for 53 years, spending time in education and training, cancer research, and finally as a psych assessment nurse in the emergency room for 25 years. Throughout her time at Memorial, she contributed to the development of hundreds of medical professionals, always emphasizing the importance of patient care with respect, dignity and humility as a priority. These lessons are carried on by the men and women who were blessed to be mentored by her still working at the hospital today.

When not working, Marianne loved to spend her days outdoors enjoying the world that God created for everyone to enjoy. She did so by gardening at her home but mostly on the seat of a bicycle. Bicycling for Marianne was very therapeutic. She was a member of the Coastal Bicycling Touring Club and participated in hundreds of rides across the backroads of Georgia for over 35 years.

Marianne was devoted to her community and synagogue and was a lifelong advocate supporting Jewish education in Savannah.

She is preceded in death by her parents Maxine and Floyd King of Claxton, Georgia and her loving husband of 55 years Samuel Scheer of Savannah, Georgia. Marianne is survived by her sons Alex and his wife Nora Bain Scheer of Pooler, Georgia and William and his wife Lori Kyker Scheer of Johns Island, South Carolina; two grandchildren Ilana Scheer Harvey and Joshua David Scheer of Charleston, South Carolina; three step grandchildren Hannah Bailey of Charleston, South Carolina and McKenna and Sophia Flaherty of Johns Island, South Carolina and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 o’ clock Tuesday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.

The family will sit Shiva at Buckingham South, 5450 Abercorn Street in Savannah:
