Lt. Col. Clinton Ward Effinger III, 88, of Savannah, Georgia and beloved husband of Yvonne Seillier Effinger, died Saturday, February 23, 2013, at his home.
Born in West Palm Beach, Florida, he was a son of the late Clinton W. Effinger, Jr. and the late Irma Blake Effinger. He graduated from Tulane University with a BA and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Harvard University with a MBA and the University of Hawaii with a MA in Planning. Lt. Col. Effinger was a fighter pilot in Korea and served in many other missions in Europe, the Pentagon and Hawaii. He retired from the Air Force in 1970 at Hickham Air Force Base in Hawaii and returned home to West Palm Beach to become Planning Director of Palm Beach County. Lt. Col. Effinger played the head Japanese pilot in Tora! Tora! Tora! He was actively involved in many organizations including SCV, Sons of the Revolution, Genealogy Society, Symphony Choral where he sang for many years, Retired Officer's and Quiet Birdmen.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Yvonne Seillier Effinger of Savannah, Georgia; three step-sons, Robert Flynn, Jr. and his wife, Beverly, Thomas Flynn and his wife, Susan, and Christopher Flynn and his wife, Alice; three granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
Inurnment will be in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery - Glennville at a later date.
