Lisa Gail Garriss, an accomplished interior designer, global adventurer and connoisseur of beauty, died at home surrounded by loving friends and family in Savannah, GA, on April 24, 2026, of ovarian cancer. She was 64.
Born in Hawaii on March 25, 1962, Lisa was raised in Savannah and graduated from high school in California in 1980. After a few years in Atlanta working and studying dance (alongside RuPaul), she moved to New York City to attend Parsons School of Design, where she earned a degree in interior design while working as personal assistant to Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Lisa began her career at Kohn Pederson Fox Conway (now KPF Associates) and later worked for Gensler and The Rockwell Group. In 1999, she moved to Singapore and took a position with Kerry Hill Architects, working on projects for Aman Resorts in Southeast Asia. Later, she joined Wilson & Associates, designing luxury hospitality and retail destinations around the world, including Four Seasons International, Giorgio Armani Hotels and The Oberoi Group. In 2009, Lisa took up residence in Los Angeles and founded her company, Plum Design West, dedicating most of her time to the iconic Beverly West residential tower. After eight years in L.A., she returned to Georgia to live among her family and life-long friends. She renovated a home in Savannah’s historic Baldwin Park neighborhood, adding a walled-in courtyard with a garden sanctuary filled with birds and beautiful plantings. From her home studio, she continued her interior design work on residential projects in Malibu, Beverly Hills, Savannah and Asia.
Lisa is survived by her mother, Kathy Miller, a renowned Georgia artist, and her stepbrother, John Miller. Her father, Lt. Colonel Stanley Garriss, and brother, Tim Garriss, an architect, predeceased her. Lisa traveled the world, from Bali to Mumbai to Lake Como to Istanbul. She was admired for her intellectual curiosity, sharp wit, flawless taste, progressive spirit and generous nature. But it was her extraordinary ability to make friends wherever she went—and keep them for life—that ensures she will be remembered forever.
