Josie Pearl Armstrong Wilson, 80, of Savannah and widow of Reverend SSGT Howard E. Wilson, United States Air Force (Ret.), died Tuesday morning, November 1, 2016, at home surrounded by her family.
Born in Washington County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Charlie B. Armstrong and the late Josie Clayton Armstrong. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Savannah. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Savannah State College and was a retired educator. Mrs. Wilson began her teaching career in the elementary schools of Hancock County and retired after many years of teaching in the Chatham County schools.
In addition to her husband of fifty-five years and her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Roxie A. Lawson, Amanda Parks, Alice Stewart and Corine Rachell, and one brother, David Sam Armstrong, Sr.
Surviving are her daughters, Jenean Turner and Dr. Betty Wilson both of Savannah, and Ann Banks (John) of Douglasville, Georgia; a granddaughter, Roshaundra Wilson of Savannah; a brother, Charles Clayton (Johnnie Mae) of Sparta, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Augustus Wilson of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and a number of other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 o'clock Friday evening at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at Bethel A.M.E. Church ' 1814 East 38th Street. Interment will be in Magnolia Memorial Gardens.
