Joseph Leon Kerr, Sr.

Joe was born in Oklahoma City, OK on August 7, 1934. Joe was affectionately called Leon by his family and friends in Oklahoma. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1952. After graduation, he joined the USAF, serving in Korea and North Africa. While stationed at Hunter Air Force Base, he met and married Ann E. Reed, March 16, 1957. They were married for 54 years and had 3 children, Joseph L. Kerr Jr., Suzann K. Bowen, and Gregory C. Kerr. While working full time, he attended Armstrong College at night and graduated with a BBA in Accounting in 1971.

He was employed by American Cyanamid / Kemira for thirty- nine- and one-half years and retired in 1996. Later, he joined the USCG Reserves and retired after 20 years as a Chief Storekeeper.

Joe and Ann loved to take the RV for extended periods of time to Key West, FL and Hunting Island State Park. They enjoyed taking the grandchildren, as well as Missy, their beloved poodle, and later their beloved Bella on their trips.

Joe’s second love was golf. He was a member of the Geechee Open, the Crackford and the Bacon Park Senior Blitz. He was an active member of the Exchange Club of Savannah and always looked forward to the Coastal Empire Fair because they fed him every night. He also loved walking at Lake Mayer with his neighbors, Ted Workman, Steve Niedbala and Sonny Harper.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Ruth Kerr of Oklahoma City, OK, his wife Ann Reed Kerr, sons Greg and Joey Kerr and his son-in-law Glen Bowen.

He is survived by daughter Suzie Bowen, 3 grandchildren, Trey (Kori), Michael (Maria) and Rebekah and 3 great-grandchildren, Keyli, Julia and Barrett, step grandchildren Traci (Mark), Brannen, Luke and Ethan Shreck, Sydney Shreck Blackston (Joey), Brian (Elise), Stella & Sasha Bowen, and Travis (Summer), Maddie and Brooks Bowen.

He is also survived by his brother Don (Ann) Kerr and his sister Carole Barby and several nieces and nephews of Oklahoma City, OK.
