Joseph Anthony 'Big Irish' Brinson, age 52, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Hospice Savannah following a long battle with cancer.



Born in Savannah, Georgia on October 17, 1960, he was a son of the late James Elton Brinson and the late Mary Lee Dean Brinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Johnny Hall. Joe attended St. James Catholic School and Blessed Sacrament Catholic School before graduating from Benedictine Military School as Cadet Captain of the ROTC.?? He then attended Armstrong College.



Joe was employed for more than 30 years in the maritime industry in Savannah.?? His career began at Transales/Savannah Foods in 1978 where he quickly worked his way to warehouse supervisor.?? His knowledge and talents of the industry soon led to him becoming the youngest Warehouse Manager for U.S. Lines.?? His career continued with Port City Logistics, American Port Services, Dollar Tree Logistics, Crown Transportation, and Coastal Logistics Group before ending his career with the family at Howard Sheppard, Inc.



He was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football from which he became known to most as 'Big Irish'.?? His other passions were golf and saltwater fishing. As a certified forklift instructor, he won 14 forklift rodeos for the state of Georgia.



Joe was particularly proud of his Irish heritage in Savannah.?? He marched for more than 40 years in the St. Patrick's Day Parade.?? He also was known for his inspiring Irish blessing which he sent out by email to friends and family on a weekly basis.



Surviving are his fianc??, Becky Deal, Savannah, two sons, Jonathan Brinson, New York City, New York and Joseph Brinson Jr. (Christine), Charleston, SC; one brother, Jim Brinson (Sherry), Midland, GA; one sister, Jane Hall, Pooler, GA; and one grandchild Lily Ann Brinson; nieces and nephews Chris Brinson (Danielle), Jim Hall (Beth), Katherine Robinson (Brian), and Jennifer Gilmour (Paul); great nephews and nieces Lillian, Grace, Smyth, Brandan, Crosby and John.



The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Monday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Father Robert E. Chaney. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
