John Milton Schneider, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with his children by his side. He was 73 years old.
Born on November 4, 1952, in Savannah, Georgia, John was the son of the late Dr. Meyer Mendleson Schneider and Adele Meddin Schneider. He was a proud graduate of Savannah High School before continuing his education at Oglethorpe University and later earning his degree from Armstrong State College.
John is survived by his loving daughter, Chatham Schneider Putnam and her husband, Edward Harris Putnam; his son, Jacob Bartow Schneider and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Rush; his sisters, Ellen Schneider Goodrich and Susan Schneider McTeer; and his two beloved grandsons, Edward Cobb Putnam II and Henry James Putnam.
John's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was being a father and grandfather. Whether attending their activities, sharing stories, spoiling them with love, or spending time with his cherished grand-dogs, John's happiest moments were those spent surrounded by family. For nearly fifty years, John worked in hospital information technology and computer systems, building a career marked by innovation, expertise, and an ability to stay ahead of every technological curve. His colleagues respected him for his knowledge, while friends and family knew him as the person everyone called when their technology needed fixing.
A lifelong supporter of the University of Georgia, John rarely passed up an opportunity to travel to Athens to cheer on the Bulldogs. John also had a lifelong passion for automobiles. As a young man, he loved working on his cherished Chevelle and most recently crushing in his Shelby Mustang GT500KR.
An avid outdoorsman, John loved boating, camping, and being on the water whenever possible. From the Intracoastal Waterways of Georgia and South Carolina to the rivers of Tennessee, he created countless memories with family and friends. Many who knew him can recall days spent boating alongside John, whether anchored for a relaxing afternoon in "Schneider Cove" or cruising across Lake Allatoona with the radio turned up on a hot summer day. The friendships and memories formed on those waters remain among the many lasting gifts he leaves behind.
John was known for his quick wit, easy laugh, and ability to keep things light no matter the circumstance. He never missed an opportunity to tell a joke, share a story, or make those around him smile. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit made friends wherever he went.
Growing up in Savannah, John was a member of Congregation Mickve Israel. Later, while raising his family in Marietta, he became a founding member of Temple Kol Emeth, where he was a dedicated member of the congregation throughout his children's youth.
A graveside service and burial will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia, on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
The family invites all who knew and loved John to remember him by sharing a story, taking a boat ride with family and friends, cheering for the Dawgs, or simply making someone laugh, just as he would have done.
