John Wallace Getty, 71, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Susan 'Sue' Cornelius Getty, died Monday morning, July 17, 2017, at Spanish Oaks Retreat.



Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Walter Kershaw Getty, Sr. and the late Hallie Mock Getty. John was a member of Trinity Chapel United Methodist Church on Tybee Island. He was a United States Air Force veteran. John retired as a Vice President at Colonial Oil and later worked for the Georgia Historical Society. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed Atlanta Braves baseball, golf and tennis.



Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Susan 'Sue' Cornelius Getty of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, The Reverend Cynthia Paige Getty and her husband, Graham Getty of Columbia, Maryland; one son, John Eric Getty and his wife, Emily, of Birmingham, Alabama; one sister, Kathryn G. Murray and her husband, Frank, of Savannah, Georgia; one brother, The Reverend W. Kershaw, Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Fleetwood, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Hallie Getty, Sara Getty, Mary Getty, John Getty and Annie Getty, and his nieces, nephews and cousins.



The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o\'clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 10 o\'clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Andy Lamon. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
