John A.
Butler
March 25, 2026
John Arthur Butler Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Savannah, Georgia.
John was born on June 12, 1942, in Jesup, Georgia, to John Arthur Butler and Daisy Thomas. He was a graduate of Savannah High School.
John honorably served his country for approximately 20 years in the Air National Guard, stationed out of Hunter Army Airfield. He dedicated many years of work as an employee of Baker Brothers.
John was known for his love of model trains. He found great joy in building intricate scenes and elaborate sets, often sharing his creations with others. He was a familiar face at trade shows, where he enjoyed buying, selling, and connecting with fellow train enthusiasts.
A lover of music and movement, John—affectionately known as “John Disco Butler”—found true happiness on the dance floor. He met the love of his life, Shannon Floyd, through their shared passion for dancing. They were married on August 25, 2012, a day John often said was the happiest of his life. Together, they brought energy, joy, and unforgettable moments to every gathering, always ready to light up any event with their spirit and love of dance.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Shannon Floyd Butler.
He leaves behind his stepchildren, Stephen Russell, Floyd, and Jenny Floyd Owen. He was a proud and loving “Papa John” to Evan, Collin and Carson Floyd, and Alexa and Jake Owen. Nothing brought him more happiness than sharing his model trains with them and seeing their faces light up.
John will be remembered for his warmth, love, and joyful spirit, and for the way he made people feel welcome and cared for. He was a truly giving and compassionate man who loved deeply and gave freely. His memory lives on in the many moments he created, the lives he touched, and the love he shared so generously.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to White Bluff Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
