Martha Jean Kitchens Brown, 87, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, arrived at her heavenly home that she had been longing for, joining her husband, Charles Lindy Brown, Sr.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Millard (MD) Kitchens and the late Sadie Arnsdorff Kitchens. Jean was an active member of her church, Hope Baptist Church. She was a 1956 graduate of Commercial High School. Jean was a homemaker, wife and mom for many years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and crafts but mainly she loved people. Jean put that love of people to use by joining Home Interiors and Gifts as a displayer, eventually rising to Branch Manager. She retired after 30 years of service with the company.
Jean’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were where she found joy. Surviving are her two sons of whom she was so proud, Charles 'Chuck' Lindy Brown, Jr. and his wife, Jill, and David Benjamin Brown and his wife, Melanie. Jill and Melanie were the daughters Jean never had, and she treated them as though they were her own. Also surviving are her eight grandchildren, Brittany Pierce (Gary), Ashley Carter (Adrean), Chad Brown, Kayla Davis (Cody), Molly Burns (Jack), Ben Brown (Katelyn), Benjamin Jacques and Rachael Brown; five great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Liam, Elliot, Audrey and Eli; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock Sunday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah. The funeral service will be held at 10 o’clock Monday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. John R. Tramell. Jr. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
