Cornelia “Connie” Ryan Black, 86, of Savannah, passed into her Heavenly Father’s arms on September 10, 2025, after a short illness. Connie was born in Savannah to the late Robert and Annie Ryan. She leaves behind her sons, BG(R) Craig McGalliard (Lisa), LTC(Ret) Todd McGalliard (Rachel), a daughter, Cheryl Brodmann (Hal) and daughter-in-law, Yoli McGalliard. There are twelve grandchildren: Harry Brodmann (Candace), Robbie McGalliard, Sarah McGalliard (Wesley), David Brodmann (Amanda), Alex Brodmann (Logan), Ceci McGalliard, Nathan McGalliard, Marc McGalliard, Abigail McGalliard, Noah McGalliard, Michael McGalliard, Elizabeth McGalliard, and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Mr. Ward Black, and her son, CDR (Ret) John Thomas (Tommy) McGalliard II.
Connie was a “cradle” member at 3 months of age at Bull Street Baptist Church where she faithfully served in many capacities such as teaching Mission Friends, singing in the choir, serving on the Lord’s Supper Committee, the Social Committee, WMU, and the Flower Committee. She served as Program Chair of the Spice Company and volunteered for two days a week for many years in her retirement. She loved her church and was known for doing a thorough job in all her commitments.
Connie graduated 5 th in her class of 500 from Savannah High School in 1957. She completed X- Ray Technology School at Candler Hospital and began work at Candler in 1965. She eventually went on to study nuclear medicine at Candler, becoming registered in both X-Ray and Nuclear Medicine Technology. In 1976, Connie went to work at Beaufort Memorial Hospital where she started their nuclear medicine program. She moved on to Memorial Medical Center in 1980 and eventually to St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1987, retiring in 2002.
Other affiliations include serving as Past President of the Elks Aidmore Auxiliary, Past President and Charter Member of the Georgia Society of Nuclear Medicine Technologists, Member of the Alee Temple Patrol Auxiliary, and a member of the Exchangettes of Savannah.
Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Bull Street Baptist Church with funeral service at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Abbey East.
