Evans Daley Fruitticher, 74, of Newington, ??and husband of Lynn Bernstein Fruitticher, died Sunday evening, March 17, 2013 (his favorite holiday), at Candler Hospital. Waiting patiently to go fishing were Pete Lee and Charles Small; Johnny Williamson, his boyhood friend of 65 years, knew Evans would be late as usual.
Born in Newington, he was a son of the late Robert Lawrence Fruitticher and the late Desiree Evans Fruitticher.
He was predeceased by his granddaughter Halie Fruitticher who died on August 16, 2012 (forever sweet sixteen) and his devoted sister, Yvonne Chauhan.
Evans graduated from Commercial High School in Savannah. He retired from CSX Railroad after 30 years of service. Evans was blessed to have so many loving neighbors and friends. He took great joy in teasing them. Evans especially loved his Monday golf at Penny Branch and Wednesday poker game at Kerry's. He was loved by many, young and old.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Lynn Bernstein Fruitticher of Newington; two sons, Dale (Mary) and Nathan; three grandchildren, Michael (Ashley), Brittany and Evans; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Devon; one brother, Robert Fruitticher (Bobbi); aunt, Hilda Lee; special nieces, Joy, Jan and Christy; loving cousins, Nonie, Warren (Judy), Sonny, Ted (Lynne), Geraldine (Geoffrey), Judy (Aulman), and Joe Marcus; devoted sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan, Lois, Robert (Arlene) and Sam; family friends, Penny Williamson and Nikki Hendrix and many other nieces and nephews. Special friends, Gentry, Laine, Landon, Wyatt, Wes, Dillon, Travis, Whitney, Conrad, Jr. (Laverne), Randy, David, Steve, Marsha, Doris, Beth, Buzzy, Bill, Woody, DeWayne, Jackie, Johnny C., Tommy, Gerrald, Jay, Scott Lee, Tim, Steve, Richard, Paul B. and the list goes on.
Special thanks from the family to Drs. Leonard Wojnowich and George Negrea and their staff as well as the staff members of both Candler and St. Joseph's Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
