Evangeline Constantine Mastopoulos, 77, entered into eternal rest on March 24, 2015 after a long illness.
The daughter of Greek immigrants, the late Nicholas J. Constantine and Mersini K. Constantine, Evangeline was born and lived her entire life in Savannah. She was graduated from Commercial High School in the Class of 1955 and began her career as a legal secretary. After working for a decade and a half, she became a homemaker and an active volunteer. As a member of St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church, she sang in the choir, served as a youth advisor, worked on the catering committee, taught Sunday School for thirty years, served as the Sunday School Supervisor, and was member and past president of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society along with many other roles including working with the Greek Festival and its predecessors, the church bake sale and the Greek booth at Night in Old Savannah. She was also a Brownie leader and Girl Scout leader. Additionally, she served tirelessly with a variety of programs at St. Paul's Lutheran Day School and Calvary Day School and the Boy Scouts.
Her sisters Mary C. Tjoumas, Calliope C. Cotoulas, Irene C. Miltiades and Helen C. Ludlow and her brother, Theodore N. Constantine, pre-deceased her.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Nick P. Mastopoulos, and son, Dr. Peter N. Mastopoulos, one brother, John N. Constantine and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 Thursday at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the Trisagion Service immediately following.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o' clock Friday morning at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church on Bull and Anderson Street conducted by Father Vasile Mihai. Interment will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
