Emmitt Anderson Parrish, Sr., 88, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Peggy M. Parrish, died Saturday evening, June 8, 2013, at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Daniel Benjamin Parrish and the late Ada Rebecca Lanier Parrish. Mr. Parrish was a decorated United States Army veteran having served during World War II. He earned numerous awards including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Mr. Parrish was a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church. He was a retired salesman for Southeastern Freight Lines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son, Gil Walls, and a brother, Dan Parrish.
Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Peggy Minga Parrish; one daughter, Rebecca 'Becky' Miller and her husband, Braxton; one son, Emmitt Anderson 'Andy' Parrish, Jr. and his wife, Lori; four step-children, Michael Lee Walls and his wife, Estelly, Terrie Rhodes and her husband, James, Robert Paul Walls and his wife, Carol, and Alan Neil Walls and his wife, Cindy; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Sue Parrish; one niece, Ada, and three nephews, Dan, Doug and Dale.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Tuesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend John A. Haney. Interment, with full military honors, will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
