Emery Clair Smith Jr., 88, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2026, surrounded by comfort and love.
Born and raised in Savannah, Emery lived a life defined by integrity, dedication, and quiet strength. He was a man of steady character, known for his consistent actions, strong values, and deep sense of responsibility to his family and community.
Throughout his life, Emery exemplified hard work and commitment. Whether in his professional endeavors, his relationships, or his everyday acts of kindness, he demonstrated a steadfast devotion to doing what was right. Those who knew him will remember his joyful presence, thoughtful wisdom, unwavering reliability, and his love for golf, NASCAR, and watching a good sports game on television.
Emery was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bennie C. Smith; his father, Emery C. Smith Sr.; his mother, Susan Heaton Smith; his sister, Carolyn S. Flamer; and his son, David Ashley Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jennifer Bunch (Angelo) and Susan Park (Frank); his brothers, Lee Smith and Tim Smith; and his sister, Amy Smith. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Kevin, Kaylynne, Madison, Kennedy, Karrine, Sarah, and Ella; his great-grandchildren, Josalyn, Rosie, Dreyton, and Emery; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Emery leaves behind a legacy that will endure through the lives he touched. His integrity shaped his family, his dedication strengthened those around him, and his quiet strength provided comfort and guidance to many. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family will receive friends on March 21st from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, Georgia. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Bonaventure Cemetery.
