Dr. Jeffrey Mark
Ignatoff
November 30, 1942 – April 14, 2026
Jeffrey Mark Ignatoff, 83, of Savannah, GA, passed away peacefully on April 14, surrounded by his loving family. Preceded in death by his father, William Bernard Ignatoff, and his mother, Gussie Rosenwald Ignatoff. Jeff was born in Newark, New Jersey on November 30, 1942. He attended Hiram College, graduating with a bachelor of science degree. He then obtained his medical degree and entered residency in Urology at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. There he met the love of his life, Kathleen (nee Trost), to whom he was married for 57 wonderful years.
After serving his country in the United States Air Force in 1970, Jeff completed his residency and practiced Urology in the Chicago area until his retirement in 2004. He also enjoyed instructing residents in the Northwestern Urology program and had the love and respect of all of his colleagues and residents.
Jeff and Kathy relocated to Savannah in retirement, where they lived a blessed life full of golf, travel, family, and volunteerism, most prominently at the University of Georgia Marine Extension. Jeff, however, was never quite satisfied to sit still in retirement, so he began volunteering at Memorial Hospital on several committees. When a medical school was opened at the Mercer Savannah campus in 2008, he joined the staff as a professor. Universally loved by his colleagues and students, Jeff received multiple commendations for his teaching and was ultimately asked to give the keynote address at graduation last year, the year of his second retirement. Still restless to contribute to his community, he then started volunteering as a tutor for elementary school students who needed extra assistance in reading and mathematics.
Throughout his life, Jeff loved to travel abroad, and he had a mental list of places he wanted to visit before he died. In the end, he ran out of places to visit and started to repeat the process. He was also an accomplished golfer and played golf several times a week. His greatest love, however, was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife Kathleen; children William Ignatoff (wife Elizabeth), Rebecca Kanaan (husband Ramzy), and Deborah Paulsen (husband Chris); grandchildren Emily and Nathan Ignatoff, Hisham and Amina Kanaan, Abigail and Rachel Paulsen; sister Ellen; and innumerable other family members and friends whom he loved and who loved him in return.
The Graveside service will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery on Sunday, April 19 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society.
