SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Dr. Arthur Edward Charmatz, 70, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Barbara Witte Charmatz, died Sunday morning, March 4, 2012, at his home.
Born in New York City and grew up in the Bronx. He received his undergraduate degree in Physics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After graduating with a degree in Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, he completed a residency in Family Practice at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1976 he moved to Savannah, Georgia and began his practice in Family Medicine. Dr. Charmatz was one of the founders of Southcoast Medical Group.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, six children, and twelve grandchildren.
A private funeral service was held at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
