Dorothy Nell Lewis Whitaker, a strong, independent, and caring woman, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, in Hinesville, Georgia, at the age of 84. She was born on February 15, 1941, in Medina, Tennessee.
Dorothy dedicated 35 years of her life to teaching, shaping countless young minds with her intelligence and passion. Beyond her distinguished career, Dorothy cherished her family above all else. She found joy in their company, and her love for them was evident in every interaction. A woman of faith, Dorothy also loved the Lord deeply. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed the challenge of game shows, particularly "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune."
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Grady Whitaker and her 9 siblings.
She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly, her daughter, Leigh Anne Marks; her son, Richard Whitaker; her granddaughters, Jessica Whitaker, Sophia Haskin, Sarah Haskin, Rhiannon Whitaker, and Victoria Whitaker; her grandsons, Jarret Haskin and Justin Haskin; and her great-grandchildren, Camille Noel, Hayes Noel, Lincoln Noel, Londyn Noel, Jaylen Smalls, and Noah Smalls.
A service will be held to honor Dorothy's life. The service is open to all.
The viewing will be held at Gamble Funeral Service Friday July 11th, 2025, from 5-7pm. Graveside service will be July 12th 2025, at Greenwhich Cemetery at 11 AM.
