David Vincent deBorde went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 18, 2015.
Born May 27, 1925 in Savannah, Georgia, David was the son of Mary Loretta Rahilly and William Thomas deBorde. David attended Marist School for Boys and Benedictine Military School through the 11th grade when in 1943 he enlisted in the U. S. Navy. For two years he served as a pharmacist mate in hospitals on Los Negres in the Admiralty Islands. He received wounded and burned men of all services. Returning to Savannah, he completed his senior year of high school at Savannah High. After attending Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, he moved to Columbia, S.C. where he worked in sales for 30 years. After retiring, David and Rosie moved to Savannah, Georgia.
David was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by Rocelia (Rosie), his wife of 59 years and best friend; their children, Teresa deBorde Glenn (Terrell), David V. deBorde, Jr. (Kate), William (Bill) E. deBorde (Melissa), and Michael A. deBorde (Kara); 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
His life's focus was his faith and his family. Affectionately called 'Grandpa' he delighted in holding court and sharing stories. His strong work ethic combined with his devotion to God gave a clear example for many to follow.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 o'clock Sunday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the Rosary being held at 5 o'clock in the chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 o'clock Monday morning at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Savannah - Post Office Box #13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416-0190 or the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist - 222 East Harris Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401.
