David Blake Alexander, 57, unexpectedly passed of natural causes on Tuesday, November 29th 2022, surrounded by his friends and the sea.
David was born December 23rd in Savannah, Georgia, the youngest of three boys. He grew up on the Southside of Savannah and was a member of the 1983 graduating class of Windsor Forest High School. He was an avid fisher, golfer, hunter and outdoorsman who never found a body of water he didn't want to throw a line in. He played countless sports throughout his childhood and later played on the golf team for Armstrong State College. He furthered his education, attending several colleges in the area, but he was most proud of his national certification from Texas A&M. Thereafter, he would refer to himself as an honorary Aggie!
In 1992, David married his better half, Jackie, and so together they built a life they loved. They raised their two children, Jordan and Blake, whom he loved more than life itself. David's infectious laugh and smile found him a friend everywhere he went. With his larger than life personality, he had a remarkable ability to connect with people, share himself, and evoke that same spirit of love in each person he knew.
He retired after 32 years of serving military families as golf course superintendent at Hunter Army Air Field. He continued his passion for golf, working at La Vida Country Club where he was a life long member, which he often referred to as La Vida National.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Jackie Cooley Alexander; children, Jordan Claire Alexander Gardner (Andrew) and David Blake Alexander II (Amanda); grandson, Ellis Blake Alexander; mother, Carol Powell Kemp; brothers, Francis Marion Alexander Jr. (Sarah) and Barry Keith Alexander (Traci); step-brothers, Michael Kemp (Debra) and Carl Kemp (Lynne); and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David is preceded in death by his father, Francis Marion Alexander; stepfather, Carlton Rudolph Kemp; father-in-law, Jackie Earl Cooley and mother-in-law Barbara Virginia Cooley.
The family will receive friends at Gamble Funeral Service Home, 410 Stephenson Avenue Savannah, Georgia on Friday, December 2, from 5 to 8pm.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 3 at 10:30am at White Bluff United Methodist Church 11911 White Bluff Road, Savannah, Georgia, 31419, by the Reverends Nathan Godley and Barry Giddens.
