SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Carolyn Ann Mewborn, 65, of Savannah, Georgia, died Friday, March 2, 2012, at Hospice House on Eisenhower.
Born in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of the late William "Admiral" Byrd and the late Loma Mary Byrd. Carol retired as vice president of AIC Towing and Recovery in 1999. She had a gift for decorating, gardening, cooking and sewing.
Carol was of the Christian faith. She devoted her life caring for all her family. A good friend said it best, "She made everyone feel like family. Carol was full of grace, elegance, class & beauty. She comforted the sick, the weak, and the weary. Her beautiful smile & friendly voice will be greatly missed."
Surviving her is her husband of 50 years, Bill Mewborn of Savannah; two daughters, Carolyn Michelle Koncul and her husband, Vincent, and Lori Holland Thompson and her husband, David, all of Savannah, Georgia; one son, William Michael "Mike" Mewborn and his wife, Lisa, of Ellabell, Georgia; five grandchildren, Haley Mewborn, Victoria Koncul, Nicholas Koncul, Gabrielle Thompson and Noah Thompson; sister-in-law "sis" Laura "Bett" Morris of North Little Rock, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Jim Mewborn and his wife, Rosemary, of Titusville, Florida; and sister-in-law, Sue Kennedy Mewborn of Bloomingdale, Georgia, and many close and very loved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 4, 2012, from 2 to 4 o'clock at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held at 2:45 o'clock Monday, March 5, 2012, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Father Patrick S. O'Brien. Private interment will be held at a later date.
