Obituary

Bobby Wayne Gee passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026. He was born January 12, 1941 in Montgomery County, Tennessee to Wiley E. and Cecile Gee, and raised in Clarksville, Tennessee the majority of his younger life. He was married and inseparable for 55 years to Mary Jo Pace.

Bobby graduated from Clarksville High School; Austin Peay State College (BS degree); The University of Tennessee (MS degree) and Georgia Southern College (ED. Spec. degree).

He and Mary Jo moved to Savannah in 1965. He was teacher / coach at Myers Junior High; Windsor Forest High and Savannah High. He then became Athletic Director for the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, followed by assistant principal / coach at the Bradwell Institute. Bobby also held several officer positions in the regions his school represented. Bobby was the recipient of the 2023 Greater Savannah Athletic Hall of Fame.

Bobby was a member of White Bluff Methodist Church. After retirement, he and Mary Jo loved r’ving, gardening and the many dogs. Bobby always considered himself blessed by having a football wife. Even after retiring, they designated every Saturday to college football – especially the University of Tennessee!

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo; his sister, Dianne Long of Ellsworth, KS; his father, Wiley E. Gee of Hopkinsville, KY; his mother, Cecile Rogers and his step-father, Charles Rogers of Security, CO.

Surviving are: a daughter, Peggy Tucker of Midlothian, VA; brother-in-law’s, Larry Long of Overland, KS and Wayne (Bobbi) Pace of Atlanta, GA; many nieces and nephews; and his dear fiancée, Mary Beth Jackson of Pleasant View, TN.

The family will be present Wednesday, May 6, 2026 from 10 o’clock until 11 o’clock in the morning at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah. The memorial service will follow at 11 o’clock in the funeral home chapel with The Reverend Dr. Barry Giddens officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his name to White Bluff Methodist Church, 11911 White Bluff Road, Savannah GA 31419.
