B.L. Smith

August 25, 1938 — November 15, 2025

Savannah

B.L. Smith went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. BL was born in Lumberton, NC, on August 25, 1938, to Lubie and Ada Smith.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers (Javid and Kelly), and one sister, Janice Mullis of Valdosta.

He is survived by his wife(Wanda) of 65 years, three sons (Billy Ray + Daphne, Bubba + Kellie, and Travis), his six grandchildren (Corey, Breann(Cale), Wesley(Ali), Jordan(Montanna), Luke, and Molly. BL also had four great-grandchildren-what a blessing! They are Kenzie, Jocelyn, Kaizer, and Olivia. Survivors also include one sister(Margaret) and one brother(Weldon Ray), and many nieces and nephews.

He lived all his life in Savannah where he began his career as an auto technician at Barnett’s Auto in 1955. He eventually worked for J.C. Lewis Ford and Fairway Lincoln-Mercury spanning 61 years before he retired in 2016. He loved Little League ball and coached many years in baseball, football, and basketball and became known as “Coach”. His love for the game and his “guys” was unsurpassed. May he rest in peace until we all meet again.

The family will receive friends from 5 o'clock until 7 o'clock Thursday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah.

Graveside services will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Savannah.
