Barbara “Biff” Montana passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on November 1, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a cherished friend to many.
Biff was born in Trenton, NJ to Dr. Meyer “Duke” and Lena “Dinkey” Friedman. She spent her childhood in Trenton before eventually moving to Yardley, PA to raise her family. Biff graduated from Trenton High School in 1951 and Sarah Lawrence College in 1955, and afterwards taught kindergarten at Stokes School in her hometown for several years.
Biff was active in many communal organizations, having served on the boards of Jewish Federation, Har Sinai Temple, Jewish Family Service, Greenwood House Nursing Home, and the Auxiliary of the Children’s Home Society. She was a life member of Hadassah, National Council of Jewish Women, Women of Greenwood House, Jewish Family Service, and Red Magen David.
Upon her husband’s retirement, they moved to Savannah, GA, where they lived in The Landings and then The Marshes. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Their large network of friends was ever growing, adding new friends from the South in addition to those from the North.
Biff is survived by her husband, Dr. Jerome Montana, her son David Montana (Linda), her daughter Jennifer Montana Glatt (David), and six grandchildren: Rachel Montana (Eduardo Marin), Joshua Montana (Dr. Fiorella Castillo), Jessica Montana, Dr. Rebecca Montana, Jordan Glatt, and Marissa Glatt Bosworth (Frank); and two great-grandchildren: Elijah and Benjamin Montana. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Donald Friedman, was predeceased by her brother Robert Friedman, and leaves behind many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at The Marshes of Skidaway Island at 1:15PM on Monday, December 8th. Contributions can be made to Congregation Mickve Israel, Jewish Federation of Savannah Hollenberg Fund, or to the charity of the donor’s choosing.
