ROBERT “BOBBY” LOVIN MORRIS

Rincon bluegrass musician, Robert “Bobby” Morris, was called home Tuesday morning, January 14, 2020, after his long battle against cancer. He was born near the little crossroad town of Daisy, Georgia. Growing up without a television, he and his family listened to bluegrass radio broadcasts. His favorite child hood memory was sharing the one family guitar with his three brothers, sister, and parents to sing together. His passion for music gave him a life of pleasure and loving friends.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a demolitionist. He was deployed to Vietnam in 1966 and awarded the Purple Heart for his service.

Bobby is survived by his daughter, Melissa Morris Sanso; his grandson, Alex Sanso, many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 o’clock Saturday afternoon, January 18, 2020, at Gamble Funeral Service – 410 Stephenson Avenue.

A celebration of life will be announced at the later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Bobby’s name to the children’s charity of your choice.

This is a tragic loss to our bluegrass community and other friends. One of the kindest, generous and most benevolent persons I ever knew. Several years ago he was gracious enough to allow me to purchase his 1957 D-21,a truly great bluegrass guitar. I’ll ever be grateful and never play it without Bobby on my mind. Rest well my friend. See you in Heaven where we’ll pick forever in the land where we’ll never grow old. Blessings to all

33 years ago I meet Bobby when we both worked for Alexander-Seewald Co. / Auto Sure. In conversation I learned of his love for Bluegrass music. My dad loved bluegrass music also – so our family invited him and his band-mates to come to the “Old Homeplace” / Jerry and Mary’s house in Screven county for our family reunion. Every year, until his health would not allow him, Bobby, Uncle Jack and many, many other bluegrass friends would pick/play around 4th of July. Bobby was also a very talented artist and my mom will forever cherish the paintings that he has given her over the years. My condolences to everyone and may the memories of Bobby bring you comfort.
