Petty Officer First Class Charles Walter Van Vleck, United States Coast Guard (Ret.), 60, of Pembroke, Georgia and husband of Julie Ann Sasser Van Vleck, died Sunday morning, January 10, 2021, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Clifford Walter Van Vleck and the late Janice Elizabeth Daniels Van Vleck. Charles retired as a Petty Officer First Class after 20 years of service in the United States Coast Guard. He was a police officer with the Georgia Ports Authority for 18 years. Charles loved sports, particularly the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves, the Miami Dolphins, and Bill and Chase Elliott in NASCAR racing. He enjoyed history and was full of trivial information.
Survivors include the love of his life for 28 years, Julie Ann Sasser Van Vleck; four sons, Mackenzie Van Vleck, Shelby Van Vleck and his wife, Valentina, Ashley Van Vleck and his wife, Constance, and Dawson Van Vleck; one granddaughter, Inara Van Vleck, and Charles was excitedly awaiting the arrival of two more grandchildren; his mother, Lavern Riley; four brothers, Alan Van Vleck and his wife, Martha, Allan Riley and his wife, Lisa, Paul Riley and his wife, Laurna, and Bryan Riley and his wife, Holly; four sisters, Cheryl Brinkley and her husband, Teddy, Adrianne Van Vleck, Paige May and her husband, Bob, and Dana Dowdell and her husband, Fred, and his aunt, Diane Lanier.
A private funeral service, with full military honors, will be held at 10 o’clock Monday morning, January 18, 2021, at the graveside, Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
