Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend, and mentor to so many John Schaffeld. I have known John since our paths crossed in Boston many years ago, and most recently spent some great times with him in Savannah in his role as Professor of Industrial Design at SCAD. He was an incredible professor. It was a role he was made for. His passion for design was infectious, and I know every student benefited. He loved his students – simple as that. He was one of life’s good people. Warm, selfless, always giving a 120% and an absolute gentleman. God speed John, we’ll miss you! RIP

  7. William Woods says:

John was an amazing professor and an insightful colleague. He never placated people for the sake of comfort and always pushed his students to their utmost. In almost 6 years of undergraduate and graduate classes I only received one “C”. It was from John’s Entrepreneurship course. He sat me down and explained that I was too comfortable in my skill set. I needed to diversify. Ever since that day John mentored me on starting my own business and helped me become the designer and educator I am today. I owe John a great deal and I truly miss him dearly.

The measure of a man is the size of the hole we leave behind. John touched so many lives his contribution is incalculable.

  8. Steffen Koury says:
