I had just connected with my “Uncle” Herman in the last couple of weeks and he was a pure delight to talk with. I hate I will not have more conversations with him but I feel blessed to have talked with him at all. Davey, I wish you peace and comfort and thank you for your care of Herman. He assured me you were taking good care of him and he needed nothing. God bless all my Shearin cousins, it is a hard time to grieve when separated by miles and a virus. I wish you peace and comfort.

Sad to lose my cousin Lil Herman whom I always loved and was so excited to see when he visited!! He & his brother Milton spent alot of time at our house when Big Herman was gone on long hauls on his truck. They were always welcome and happy to be there to get to hangout with all us cousins that lived close to Mama’s. He possessed all the good qualities of the Shearin Clan as a good and kind man with a sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by us all!! Dave, I hope to meet you before you move so plz try and come visit here few days to enjoy beautiful Lake Gaston!! Let me know IF you are on Facebook and I will send you few pics. You are welcome here at my house anytime!! Plz stay in contact and send me your phone #. Mine is 252-535-5455landline, 252-308-5265 but landline is better after 630pm weekdays. Dear Dave, I just finished watching the Funeral and the Video of his pics and service to our Country!! I LOVED it!! I kept hearing what sounded like the same bird chirping during the Pastor’s Eulogy up to the folding of the Flag!! I wish I knew what kind of bird that was!! If you know anything about birds and what kind of bird it was please let me know!! I saw you and your family at the end and you accepting the Flag. Now I at least know what you look like from the side! So enjoyed the pics of him, you and your furbabies!! I wish he had pics of his family from here and he told me he only had 1 pic of our Grandpa Hannibal & wife Gma Pokie (Pocahontas) and I told him I was going to make copies and send him some but it wasn’t meant to be! I wish I’d known that years ago and I would have sent them a long time ago. I want to take this opportunity to thank you again for being such a dear longtime friend of Herman’s and taking the best care of him and loving him!!! He was so special to us as well!! He knew he was loved by you and family!! You will always be a part of our family!! I am happy that we got to see the videos since we couldn’t be there!! Thank you Lord!! Please keep in touch and let me know if your phone # changes. I am going to call you this coming weekend. My sympathy and prayers for you! Love You Dave!!

I was so sorry to hear of Herman’s passing, but was very glad that his service was on video so we could see it. It is sad that he and all us – his many cousins- here in NC never got to see him much, but we all loved him and I feel sure he knew that we did and he loved us. Sad that we didn’t make it to getting together this June as we were all hoping we could do, but he knew we wanted so much to see him again. But am glad he didn’t have to suffer too long.

Dave so glad that you have been there with him and for him all these years. I know he had a happy life and I am thankful for that. Blessings to you.

  9. Catherine H. Smith says:

I had just talked to Herman the week before & he said he felt hopeful that he might have a chance & was going to talk to the hospital the next week about possible treatment, so I was real shocked to hear the news he’d passed away. I am so thankful tho that he DID have hope in the final stage of his earthly life!!! Dave, thank you for calling us – I really appreciate it. Herman & Milton were 2 of our first cousins we didn’t get to see very often bc of distance separating us but we had a fun time together as children when we DID get to see each other – especially the times when Uncle Herman would bring them to our house to stay when he was making a cross-country trip with his job on his truck. They got to play with all their cousins who lived in RR then & Herman always talked about those times when I’d call him (usually on his birthday) & you could tell they were really special memories for him & Milton both. I know this has been hard on you & we will keep you in our prayers in the coming days. I’ll call you soon to chat again. Sorry to be so late in writing – Dickey came down with Shingles 2 weeks ago so we have been dealing with that. I enjoyed seeing the videos. May God give you peace. Dickey & all our family send their sympathy. My mother, Louise Shearin, was one of Herman’s aunts in RR.
