THE REVEREND DR. BARRY JOEL MINSKY

 minsky_-_barry_150_x_140

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - The Reverend Dr. Barry Joel Minsky, U. S. Army (Ret.), 68, of Savannah, Georgia, faithful and loving husband of Nancy Louise Cox Minsky, died and went to be with the Lord God Jehovah whom he had served all of his adult life on Monday morning, December 12, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Allen Morton Minsky and the late Gertrude Rosenthal. The Lord saved Barry and called him to the ministry at age 19.  The Reverend Bart Trowbridge gave Barry a New Testament, while Barry was a student at Temple UN. Barry read it in one weekend. He said “If this is the truth, I will dedicate my life to it.” Barry J. Minsky was faithful to God’s call in his life. Barry earned three masters and two doctorate degrees. He was a graduate of: Saint Joseph’s College, Reformed Episcopal Seminary, Luther Rice Seminary. Barry was a trained and experienced ordained minister. He was successful in developing programs to help youth and adults grow in their spiritual lives.  Barry was a Bible expository preacher, and a radio Bible teacher. Above all, Barry was a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Barry served as a home missionary. He was a pastor and a U.S. Army chaplain where he served as the primary preacher/teacher in three civilian churches and seven military congregations. He was endorsed by the Bible Fellowship Church.

There is a hymn that Barry loved very much, called “Here is Love vast as the ocean.” A Welshman, Huw Priday, sang the hymn, which came out of the 1904 Welsh Revival. To Barry, that hymn expresses the very essence of the gospel message. Dr. John MacArthur’s commentary on the book of Romans was a favorite of Barry’s. Barry said, “My Wife and my Lord make me smile every day.” He and his wife were incredibly close. Whenever he saw her, he would light up. She would tell him that she had the same reaction. They enjoyed one another but also the opportunity and privilege of being able to serve the Lord, to be involved in some kind of ministry. It makes all the difference in the world. God has given us a beautiful world and many blessings. But they just pale in comparison to the privilege that we have of sharing God’s Word with the people who are living around us. The one Bible verse that impressed Barry the most is the passage on Philippians, chapter 3, where Paul talks about giving up everything for Christ. He says, “I want to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering.” At first, all three of those statements sound rather strange. Paul did know Christ and knew Him well. He had the resurrection power within him; that of course is the power that takes the dead and brings them to life again – that’s what he did for us; we became alive in Jesus Christ. And he understood that suffering was given to him because he was faithful to his calling, just as the Lord Jesus suffered.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Nancy Cox Minsky of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Deborah Lynne Minsky Rossman and her husband, Charles, of Sierra Vista, Arizona; two sons, Paul David Minsky and his wife, Jeanne, of Newfield, New Jersey, Joel Mark Minsky and his wife, Sandy, of Williamston, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren, Rachel Feret and her husband, Ryan, David Minsky, Joy Minsky, Kristen Minsky, Emily Minsky, Sara Minsky, Jeff Wils, Matthew Rossman, Charity Rossman, Jesse Rossman and Rebekah Rossman, and one sister, Joan Minsky of Chicago, Illinois.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service – 410 Stephenson Avenue.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning at Quacco Baptist Church – 215 Quacco Rd., conducted by The Reverend Dr. J. Steve Sells. Interment, with full military honors, will be at 2 o’clock in Beaufort National Cemetery.

Although having been a neighbor for many years, it wasn't until last fall that I was blessed to really meet and have a most joyful conversation with Reverend Minsky. We stood between our houses just sharing about our children where he shared some of he and Mrs. Minsky's beautiful lemons from their lemon tee with me. The joy in the.Lord flowed through him as we spoke. I will always remember.Rev Minsky and his great kindness . I am saddened by the loss the family and many others are feeling. But so encouraged by knowing he is with our Lord where we will greet him again someday soon!

LITTLE BLACK SOCKS

On Jan 1, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pa; Allen & Gertrude Minsky were blessed with there 1st Child; a beautiful baby boy with thick dark hair. They named him Barry Joel Minsky. Barry had one sibling, Joan Minsky who was five years younger.

Barry had many hobbies. He had two hobbies from his childhood. They were photography in which he had his own dark room and Ham Radio Operations.

In 1962 at a street mission in New York City Barry met Nancy Louise Cox. They soon fell in Love and were married on March 30, 1963. Barry told Nancy he wanted to grow old with her.

On March 26,1964 Barry and Nancy had their 1st child and they named him Paul. That's me; the guy writing this.  Barry and Nancy had two more children and 11 grandchildren.  Barry and Nancy spent their lives together in love. They traveled the world and lived in Germany, Italy and many places across the United States.

LITTLE BLACK SOCKS
My father would come home, throw off his shoes and then take off his socks. They would roll up in a little ball. That's why we called
them little black socks.

I've always been proud to be the son of Barry Minsky!  When I was a little boy about the age of four my father spoke at a large Church. During the service while my father was speaking I stood up on the Church pew, pointed at my father standing behind the pulpit and yelled out the words "That's my daddy".  Over 40 years later I still feel the same way.  Barry Minsky is my daddy!!!
I have always been proud to be the son of Barry Minsky!!! Barry Minsky has never disappointed me. I never heard him curse. I never saw him strike someone. I never saw my father involved
in inappropriate behavior. I never saw my father get angry or lose his temper. He was never selfish. This is testimony to Barry Minsky's amazing character.  To not do the don't is amazing
and commendable, but to also do all the dos is the sign of a rare and special man!!!  Barry Minsky was very Special!!! Barry Minsky spent time with his family and friends and loved them unconditionally. He helped others. He supported his family in every way possible. He brought his family to Church. He taught us about the LORD. When it came to Barry Minsky's family, he went above and beyond in everything. He was always there for his family.

LITTLE BLACK SOCKS
Every time I went home and saw those little black socks I knew my father was close by. I Loved going home. No matter when or where, I was always welcomed by my father with opened arms.

Barry Minsky graduated from St Joseph's University, Reformed Episcopal Seminary and Luther Rice Seminary. He earned three Masters Degrees and 2 Doctorates. He earned many other degrees and was a life long student. He loved learning!

Barry served the United States of America as a career Army officer for 28 years.

Barry enjoyed reading, learning and getting involved.

The following words describe Barry Minsky:
            Integrity
            Optimistic
            GODLY
            Faithful

When you were with Barry Minsky:

He made you feel special. He was truly was concerned for You and Your concerns. He never spoke to anyone as if he where better than them. He spoke to all as equals and with love. Barry Minsky loved everyone and if you knew Barry Minsky, you loved Barry Minsky. You couldn't help it. He was that special. He always gave more than he received. If giving of ones self were a contest, Barry ALWAYS WON!!!

Barry Minsky was tall, handsome, intelligent, charming, well spoken, a gentleman and he honored GOD!!!  After he was stricken with cancer, heart problems, no kidney function, his body became frail and weak. He had scoliosis of the neck so his head was twisted to the side. Barry
continued to praised and honor GOD!!!

About 2 years ago my father told me things were getting harder for him and he said to me "I want to be faithful". Barry believed he should die the
same way he lived; honoring GOD in all that he did and live life to the fullest!!!
Barry was faithful!! He fought the good fight!! He finished his course!!
Barry Minsky is now in Heaven rejoicing and honoring GOD!!!
There is no doubt Barry Minsky will hear the words: well done, my good and faithful servant!
Why????
We are hurting. Why would such a beautiful man
be inflicted with such pain for so long and taken from us 20 days before his 69th birthday?  Why??  Barry Minsky never said why. He never complained.
He faced every challenge head on, Praised GOD and said "Help me LORD".
If Barry Minsky was here today he would say "Rejoice! I Suffer no more. I am home with my LORD and Savior, Rejoice!" I can see Barry Minsky saying "Friends, do you know Jesus Christ as your personal LORD & Savior?" This is life's most important question!!  Search your soul and make that decision!!!

LITTLE BLACK SOCKS
If You ever see a pair of little black socks next to a sofa or a chair; think of Barry Minsky and remember he loves you, is concerned about you and
wants you to answer life's most important question.
Honor Barry Minsky today by loving GOD with all heart, loving everyone, living each day to the fullest and laugh.
