SGT XAVIERA ALETHEA BASS BELLAMY, U.S. ARMY

MIDWAY, GEORGIA - SGT Xaviera Alethea Bass Bellamy, U. S. Army, 38, of Midway, Georgia, wife of SFC Gabriel Terrance Bellamy, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Memorial University Medical Center, Savannah, Georgia.

Born in Hampton, Virginia, Xaviera (affectionately known as Lee) is the daughter of Xavier Delano Lewis and the late Janie Lee Blackwell.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Lee was a transportation vehicle operator in the United States Army stationed at FT Stewart, GA.   In 2005, at a relatively late time in her life, Lee joined the Army.  It was a union that was destined to be.  The Army taught Lee how to be a team player and a leader.  She loved the Army, and the many warm expressions of affection the family has received from commanders, senior enlisted leaders, and rank-and-file soldiers on FT Stewart, affirm that the Army and Lee shared a mutual love and respect for each other.

It is fitting that Lee’s last act on this side of eternity was to be an organ donor; to transform the lives of recipients whom she will never meet.  And not only them, but also the aunts and uncles, and the grandmothers and grandfathers who would have been devastated without Lee’s selfless act of kindness.

Surviving Lee are her beloved husband, SFC Gabriel Terrance Bellamy of Midway, Georgia; children Jenae Lofton, Tanashia Bass, Lyric Bass, Myron Bass, Jr., and MarLee Bass; her father, Xavier Lewis; step-mother, Marlyn Lewis; two sisters, Odirias Perry and Jacqueline Thompson; one brother, Anthony Graves; grandmother, Mary Beverly Lewis Sally (Riley); three aunts, Luella Burton, Irene Richardson, and Shirley Henley (James); and many cousins, nephews/nieces; several great cousins/great nieces, in-laws and friends.

During today’s service, Lee will be accorded full military honors.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Xaviera’s memory to Susan G. Komen for the Cure [Breast Cancer], Coastal Georgia Affiliate, PO Box 1405, Savannah, GA 31402; Tel:  912.232.2535.

Words failed me when I learned of the news of Sgt Bass' sudden passing. I worked with SGT Bass for a short period of time at Ft Stewart and I still cannot believe she is gone. She was indeed outgoing, high spirited and seemed to really enjoy being in the Army and being a "go to" type of Soldier. I am sure there is indeed a void at the company at Ft Stewart where she worked. She was small in stature but big in personality.
She will be sorely missed. My sympathy and prayers to her family. God bless.

Although I did not know Lee personally, I am well acquainted with her father. As a retired military member I am very proud of Lee's service and if she mimiced her father, she was quite a warrior.

While it's never easy losing a loved one (I know personally) your grief gets a bit easier to bear day-by-day. God will give you the strength you need to make it.

May God bless the entire family
