ROBERT RUSSELL MOORE

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Robert Russell (Bob) Moore of Savannah passed away on July 21, 2010, at age 80.

Bob was born on July 8, 1930, in Chattanooga, Tenn.  His parents were the late Russell E. Moore and Floy Bragg Moore. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Moore Cason of Pensacola, Fla. He is survived by his younger sister, JoAnne Moore DeSha, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three nephews; two nieces; one great niece; two great-great nephews; several cousins, and many wonderful friends.

Bob was graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga in 1948, and he attended the University of Chattanooga. He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps.

For most of his career, Bob was a professional bartender in Savannah where he worked at the Boars Head Restaurant, the Savannah Yacht Club and the Chatham Club. His many friends and customers remember his congenial, outgoing personality.

Bob’s hobby and passion was genealogy.  For decades he researched family histories for himself and for friends.  He spent countless hours doing computer research of census records as well as visiting county courthouses, graveyards and U.S. Archives facilities. His research enabled him to trace his immediate family to the time of the American Revolution.

Bob was an avid reader and had a lifelong interest in learning. Even during his last years he continued to say he learned something new every day.  He never met a stranger and loved to talk to everyone.  He was known by his many friends and acquaintances as Mr. Bob.

He maintained a positive outlook, despite the challenges and adversity he faced, having survived two bouts of cancer.  In his later years, he ended every message with “Que sera sera (whatever will be, will be). He had an abiding confidence in and relationship with his “Deus absconditus,” the hidden God. He was a loving and generous son, brother and uncle.

He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by those who knew him.

Jenny, Eddis and I were Mr. Moore's "SmartSenior" family. For the last ten years he spent several days a week in our office in Savannah working on the computer, helping others with their geneology projects and sharing his views on everything from Broadway to Politics. He was our friend and I can only pray that he thought of us the same way, and I think he did. He shared his wisdom and humor with us and we had many conversations about living and dying. He would tell me a story and always end it with "but I don't have any regrets". He lived life his way and he died the same way. Everyone he touched that day in the hospital admired and respected his attitude, sense of humor and kindness. He will be sadly missed. Our office will never be the same without "Mr. Moore". Our prayers are with his family and I will never forget him.

Over the past 10 years, SmartSenior has been a part of Bob Moore's life and he has been a part of our's. He spent many hours a day in our office researching on the computer, sharing his views of life and memories. He lived a colorful life and it has most certainly been a pleasure knowing him. I think we were blessed to have played a part of his daily life and the honor of spending his last day on earth with us. Dear God, take care of him...he is a special friend!

Sincerely,
Jenny Koch

I had the pleasure of being a part of Mr. Bob's life for only a short while. There is a season for everything, and I guess this was Mr. Bob's. You know, the Lord places individuals in certain times and places for a reason. I am glad I was placed in this time and place and was able to know Mr. Robert Russell Moore for SUCH A TIME.
