SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Ralph Clinton Price, Jr., 82, of Savannah, Georgia, widower of Geraldine Elizabeth “Gerry” Altizer Price, passed away in Christ on Thursday afternoon, May 26, 2011, at Candler Hospital under the loving care of Hospice Savannah.  He was a very loving man who devoted his life to others.

Born in Johnson City, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Ralph Clinton Price, Sr. and the late Beulah Johnson Price Fraley. Mr. Price was dearly loved by the members of Parkway Church of Christ. He and Gerry were married for 51 years. He was a United States Army veteran who served as a medic and was wounded during World War II. Most of Mr. Price’s career was spent in radio and television broadcasting in the Savannah area. He was probably best known for hosting two television shows: Candid Opinion and Dialogue. Mr. Price was also a Special Assistant to then 1st District U. S. Representative G. Elliott Hagan in Washington. He was an unprejudiced gentleman and was credited by the late W. W. Law with helping to keep the Civil Rights protests peaceful in our community. He did so by providing the protesters a voice through his unbiased coverage as a broadcaster. Mr. Price and others were the founders of the Friends of Johnny Mercer.

Surviving are two sons, R. Clinton Price III and his wife, Dawn, of Savannah, Georgia, and Benjamin E. Price and his wife, Pamela, of Pooler, Georgia; one daughter, Penny Price-Matthews and her husband, John E. Matthews, of Savannah, Georgia; one brother, Robert Lee Price and his wife, JoAnn, of Johnson City, Tennessee; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o'clock Monday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.

The funeral service will be held at 6 o'clock Monday evening in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service.  Private interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

Remembrances:  Hospice Savannah - Post Office Box #13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416-0190 or to Friends of Johnny Mercer – Suite 102, One Oglethorpe Professional Boulevard, Savannah, Georgia 31406.

I remember Ralph Price from when I was young (in the days of three channels). He was ahead of his time in many ways and could teach today's commentators a few things. God bless his family during this time.

Although I personally did not know Mr. Ralph, I am acquainted with Ben, his son, both professionally and personally. Ben often spoke very fondly of his dad. My prayers of support are with Ben and his entire family during this stressful time.

Ralph Price was an excellent broadcast journalist. I watched his news reports in the 1960s, and I wish today's news readers had as much skill, insight, and compassion. My father, B.W.(Bill)Cunningham was a friend and colleague of Ralph's, and thought very highly of him. They were much alike in their desire to see Savannah progress peacefully into a future with civil rights for all.

My sympathy to Ralph's family. You can be so proud of him.

I was surprised to see the Ralp Price obituary and see someone I immediately recognized from my life in Johnson City in the 50s and 60s. Ralph was a good man who made a difference. His family is in my prayers.
