harris_-_denney_150_x_221

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Lanford Denney Harris went home to be with the Lord on May 5, 2010, while under the care of Hospice Savannah.

Gramps, as he was called by his grandchildren, was born August 29, 1943 in Appling County. He was predeceased in death by his mother, Lela Pauline Harris, infant sister, LaFayne Harris, and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Denney was a graduate of Robert W. Groves High School, after which time he served in the U. S. Army.  He worked for many years at Rent-A-Tool Co. and was working at Intermarine when he became disabled. In 1997, God blessed him with a heart transplant, which added thirteen years to his life, allowing him more time to love and enjoy his grandchildren.  He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where he enjoyed many wonderful friendships.

Denney is survived by Sherrie Arban Harris, wife of forty-three years; one daughter, Toni Hendley and her husband, Ken; one son, Christopher Harris; grandsons, Zach and Josh Hendley, and Collin Harris, all of Savannah; his father, Calfry Harris; one brother, Kennon Harris and his wife, Billye; two sisters, Genell Phillips and her husband, Bobby and Jawana Wigley, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 12 o'clock Saturday at Southside Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held at 12 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Southside Baptist Church conducted by The Reverend Dr. Allan W. Bosson.  Interment will be private.

Remembrances:  Southside Baptist Church Building Fund – 5502 Skidaway Road, Savannah, Georgia 31406 or American Heart Association - Post Office Box #15515, Savannah, Georgia 31416.

I always enjoyed playing Phase 10 with Denney; even though he took all the "skip"s out of the deck! Also the reaction to his "bulldog mumps" was priceless for anyone new meeting Denney :) Denney thanks for all the great memories! Love Steven Giles

It's been a long time since I've seen Denney in person, but I have strong rememberances of him as a caring father and a strong Christian man. I offer my condolences to all of his family, but particularly Sherrie, Toni and Chris. May God care for you and your families in these trying times.

Regards,
Kent Britton

Sherrie,

Gean and I are on vacation at Lake Lure NC. I am trying to work out the details that will allow us to be with you on Saturday. I have tried to contact you by phone. We were so sorry to hear about Denney. At the same time we are grateful to know that he is celebrating at the same time. We love you so much. You have been an ideal wife (and step daughter-in-law and step sister-in-law). We love you and do everything we need to do to be with you. Our prayers are with you now. Please pass this to your children as well.

I knew Denney only through Sherrie, but what a wonderful guy he must have been. He was so loved by his family and did so much for his parents as well as his wife and children. Sherrie has been an inspiration to many as she has cared for him. My deepest condolences to all. Sherrie, you can rest easy knowing you did all you could have for Denny and more. Clearly, he was a much loved man.

Sherrie and Family you have my deepest condolences. I will always remember Denney from working with him in the Intermarine Warehouse. He always had the knack to make anyone smile and laugh. I will truely miss him. I wish I could ease your sorrow. Please be comforted knowing that he was loved by many and that he had helped more people than you can imagine. The Lord had blessed me to know him. I have a 6-year-old son who is also an American Heart Hero. Denney will always be a hero to me. I looked at him like he was my second father. I will treasure his wisdom, advice and his memory in my heart. May God bless and comfort your family. In deepest sympathy, Darline (Nesmith) Turner

Denney was a coworker, fishing buddy, and a lot better friend to me than I was to him. I will miss him very much but I will have lots of good memories. My regards to Sherrie and the family. Love ... Kirk

I wish to extend my sympathy to your family. I attended
First Freewill Baptist Church late 60's and met some of
the family there. Sherrie probably doesn't remember me
you were young. I knew your dad very well, we purchased
several of our cars from him...How time gets away from us. I am very sorry for your and your childrens loss. I
also want to extend sympathy to Calfry. I have known him a long time and also knew him through my Aunt Nellie
Harris. I remember Denny but did not know him personally
but I always felt that Calfry was a Christian and I am
certain he passed him knowlege of God to his children..
God bless each and every one of you.
