My name is Gloria Palumbo Berenson; Joey was my brother for 53 years. He was the best brother and the best guy anyone could have the pleasure to know. Joey was a self made millionaire; he started with a license from Beauty School, worked for 1 year in a Beauty shop in the Bronx. After the year was up, he bought the shop from the owner made improvements, he went on, to own bigger and more upscale salons, expanding into hair clubs for men. Joey was the ultimate Entrepreneur. As a person he was compassionate, funny, he loved to imitate actors, and comedians, making everyone in the family laugh, him Mom and Dad adored him. His sisters and his brothers always had fun and laughed when Joe was around. He was always there to cheer you up .
He was an outstanding father to his daughters. A great friend.... and all of his cousins and his Aunts and Uncles loved him dearly. Very few people will live on this earth and achieve the success, personality, and be loved, as much as my brother Joey, he WAS, that special. Joey will be be loved and missed by many, more then anyone will ever know.
I will love and never forget you, BIG KISS to you, I Love you, Gloria

Mary-Lou and I go back a long time, we know each other since we were 12 years old. Along with Mary-Lou came her brothers, Joey, Eddie and Michael. I knew them all well, but I related to Joey because he was our age. I always had dinner at their house, because there Mom was a great cook, we use to have eating contests to see who would finish first, of course Joey would win. He use to say Mary-Lou and I would never get married because we liked to go out dancing all the time, he once in a while came with us, he was a great dancer to. If I had problems he would often help me out. He loved music, especially rock and roll which in the fifties were the greatest and still are. You will be missed. May you Rest in Peace in Rock and Roll Heaven. Judy(Koenig)Amoroso

My brother was a terrific guy, who was always fun to be around. We shared a lifetime of memories- wrestling as kids, playing at P.S. 121 park, standing up for each other at our weddings, going to Yankee games, sharing good times with our families. Most recently, I will remember our phone conversations. We would always make each other laugh and I would always feel good when I hung up the phone. He had much to be proud of in his lifetime and leaves a legacy of accomplishments, both personal and professional. I will think of him often, and will miss him. No, I miss him already.

Everyone has their own special memories of Joey. One of the first was on my wedding day when he made me feel so special, doing my hair in a cascade of beautiful curls. You could always count on Joey to make you laugh whether at an unexpected family sleepover during a snow storm, or on the alter at church, when he was godfather to my son Matthew. Joey's hazel eyes sparkled when he laughed and he always came across as a regular Joe. He loved his family, good food and the NY Yankees. We will miss you Joey, but loving memories remain and a good "soul" lives forever.

As Uncle Joey's Godchild and with him as my Godfather, I, Matthew always felt a special kinship with Joseph Palumbo. Uncle Joey was full of life, spirit and soul. From the time I was a young child to my most recent conversations with Uncle Joey he always emphasized a great energy and brilliant optimism that made everyone whether on a phone call or in a room feel important. My special memories I think about were when I was young and my family and I visited him, Regina, Michelle, and Diana in New Jersey during those hot summer days. As I became a teenager it was when Uncle Joey would come to the NY Yankee baseball games with me, my dad (Edward Palumbo, his brother), and my brother Edward. All of us looked so forward to seeing Uncle Joey and spending quality time with him cause we knew what a wonderful person he was not just as an Uncle and brother, but as a man. However, my fondest memory was him flying 3000 miles to see me at my wedding and hair styling my hair just before we gambled at roulette and spent those last few moments before I would become Tamara's husband. Tamara loved Uncle Joey dearly as well expressing how he had an unbelievable spirit and loved his smile. Tamara remembers the first time I introduced her to Uncle Joey and how she felt this instant connection with him since he was a hair stylist and Tamara Palumbo my wife was a make-up artist. When I spoke to Uncle Joey recently he said to me, "Matt when I passed my brokers exam and received my license I was so happy I cried". Well I knew just how Uncle Joey felt cause I felt the same way one month earlier when I passed my Real Estate License Salespersons exam as well. I will miss Uncle Joey not just because he's my Godfather and Uncle, but because he's truly a great loving and unique person. Uncle Joey you will be missed dearly.

Unlike so many of the condolences offered, Tom and I have only known Joe, Diana, and of course their beloved Baccala, for a brief time. They opened their home, and their hearts, to us, warmly and generously. We shall cherish the laughter and enjoyment of our New Hampshire-themed dinner with them and Lou during our most recent visit to Savannah. Anne Frank once said, "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." Our lives have been deeply enriched by having known Joe, even if for far too few of those moments he improved ours. Savannah will not be the same without him. Diana, please know that our thoughts are with you and your family.

From the moment I meant Uncle Joey I felt he was an unbelievable inspiration.
Uncle Joey was always full of life, laughter, and love. He was a pleasure to
be around and I felt this immediate bond and closeness. I always spoke of
him as "Cool Uncle Joey" and was inspired how he always lived his life as
an adventure. One of my fondest memories that bring a smile to my face
and a chuckle is when Matthew and I drove with him and Diana in his SUV
from Ed and Joannes wedding ceremony, he jumped the curb just to amuse
us. Uncle Joey was a free spirit, following his heart, living everyday to the fullest.
He leaves behind so many special memories, including when he made the trip
to Las Vegas to share my wedding day with me and his Godchild Matthew.
I will miss him dearly and honor his memory always.

I have so many fond memories of Uncle Joey and I am saddened by the fact that I won't be able to share any more with him. As a child, I remember numerous visits to New Jersey, to see Uncle Joey. Those times were always filled with laughter, happiness and of course, talks of the Yankees. Uncle Joey had such a fun-loving spirit and zest for life- it was contagious when you were around him. One of my fondest recent memories of Uncle Joey was when he joined my Bachelor Party- Uncle Joey knew how to celebrate life and have a great time. Through his life he taught those around him that if you work hard and are passionate about what you do- success will follow. He was a man of integrity, of pride, full of passion and I am so proud to call him my uncle. My wife, Joanne, and I send our heartfelt condolences to Diana, Regina and Michelle. Uncle Joey will forever be with us through the beautiful memories he leaves behind.

Uncle Joey, you are loved and will be greatly missed. Thank you for being my Godfather and a real inspiration to me. I remember the great times we had when I was growing up. You had the best sense of humor and I remember your practical jokes like it was yesterday. You made me and everyone else laugh and feel uplifted just being around you. I especially appreciate your coming all the way to Florida for Gail and my wedding. It wouldn't have been the same without you. I wish we could have spent more time together in recent years. It is with a heavy and broken heart that I say goodbye to my Godfather and uncle Joey and truly a great man with a heart of gold. John "Johnny Boy" Coniglio. Davie, Florida.

I have to share this with anyone who knew Joey well. The Sunday after his service was “Mother’s Day”. All I could think is it is a good thing my mother (Joey’s Mom) is not alive today, it would have been the worst Mother’s Day of her life. As for me, I have no children, mom, as I mentioned is deceased. It WAS the worst Mother’s Day for me.
I went to an Italian Eatery in Hallandale; the owners are REAL Italian-Americans from Brooklyn. I ordered the sausage and peppers (in honor of my mom), that was one of her great dishes; she would make for me, Joey and the family. As I was eating, they had Frank Sinatra on the TV singing “My Way”…if you listen to the words, it was like Joey
Saying Good-Bye. Or if I had to pick a song to sum up Joey’s life. It would be “MY WAY”, by Frank Sinatra. I began to think of Joe and cry, after I shared this with a friend, she said” That was a message from him saying Hello and I am Ok” I still morn and think of you Joey, you definitely did everything YOUR WAY!
Love, your sister, Gloria
