JOHN CHARLES SLAGLE

                               

POOLER, GEORGIA - John Charles Slagle, 77, of Pooler, Georgia, husband of Carol Susan Philips Slagle, died Saturday morning, February 4, 2012, at Hospice Savannah.

Born in Ford City, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John M. C. Slagle and the late Elaine Brigode Slagle. Mr. Slagle was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Pooler. He was a former member of the Pennsylvania National Guard. Mr. Slagle earned his undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock University and earned M. S. degrees from Duquesne University and Bankstreet College. He retired after many years of service as an Elementary School Principal for the School District of Penn Hills. Mr. Slagle liked golf and loved antiques, especially antique cars.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Carol Susan Philips Slagle of Pooler, Georgia; two daughters, Beth Graham and her husband, Duane, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Helene Slagle of Florida; three sons, Edward Slagle and his wife, Cheryl, of Knoxville, Tennessee, Brett Slagle and his wife, Patty, of Peachtree City, Georgia, and Scott Slagle and his wife, Stacey, of Export, Pennsylvania; two step-sons, Jason Moss and his wife, Jennifer, of McDonald, Pennsylvania, and Joshua Moss and his wife, Melanie, of Sergy, France; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

No formal service is planned at this time.

CAROL: John and I were neighbors and best friends from the age of five. We were constant childhood playmates, walked to elementary school together, and attended high school together. I deeply regret hearing of his passing.

John was a memorable friend from long ago. We grew up together in Pattonville, participated in the devilments of youth and worked together in the steel mill in Youngstown, Ohio. He was a good guy, a pal.

I was shocked to read about John's passing. John was a very good man and I know he will be missed by many. My sympathy to you and your family on your loss! My mother-in-law still talks about both of you.
